1) The most interesting thing I learned from this week’s chapters, is hyperbilirubinemia in the neonate. This section reminded me of when my son was born in the hospital. They almost would not let me bring him home with me because he was slightly jaundice. This appears to be a common condition in neonates due to poor feeding. The baby was prescribed phototherapy and the nurses suggested that I try supplementing with formula. My son’s bilirubin levels reduced, and I was able to bring him home on discharge day. Although, I was cautiously advised to keep an eye out for signs and symptoms such as lethargy or yellowing of his skin.2) One thing that I still do not understand from this week’s chapters is the section on ABO blood groups and Rh types. If a patient needs a blood transfusion, blood typing must be compatible, or a serious reaction can occur. However, if a patient with AB antigens receives (O-) blood, then how will the body adapt that blood with its own AB antigens? Moreover, the body may think an infectious process is occurring and attack itself. So, when a patient with AB antigens receives (O-) blood, does the body add AB antigens to the blood cells or does it simply ignore them and not form an immune response?

Writing Assignment Writing ServiceEssay TopicAnalyze how changing values and advertising led to the 1929 crash and Great Depression mentioned by Payne in Crash! To support your analysis, use information from at least two chapters in Crash!, information from the class textbook, and one primary source image. Because images can be used to shape public opinion, one paragraph in your essay should analyze a primary source photograph or print advertisement related to the focus of your essay. For example, on page nineteen in Crash! there is a picture of a World War I buy-bonds advertisement, on page forty-one there is an automobile ad, and on page 110 there is a photograph of National Recovery Administration (NRA) supporters. One of your essay paragraphs should be devoted to analyzing one image you find on your own. Using images found in The American Yawp or Crash! will cost you some points on the essay; find your own image to analyze. The essay should be 1,000 words long including quotations but excluding citations, heading, bibliography, works cited, and other such auxiliary information. OrganizationAn organized essay should have an: Introduction paragraphFirst body paragraphSecond body paragraphThird body paragraphConclusion paragraphMake sure the introduction paragraph has a thesis sentence. The essay should smoothly transition from one idea to the next. Each paragraph should focus on one point or source with the goal of having the essay as a whole supporting your thesis. Please follow this basic formatting information: Single space the essayUse a standard font and type size (12-point font and Arial or Times New Roman)Use black typeAvoid bold or other highlighted forms of typeAvoid bullet or numbered lists in a short essay like the ones assigned in this class. No heading, works cited page, nor bibliography is required. Canvas will automatically state all the information in a typical heading (name, date, course). Since you will only be using the assigned sources in the essay, no works cited nor bibliography page is required. Direct QuotesUse direct quotes, but use direct quotes sparingly. Avoid using long quotes or block quotes in short essays like the ones in this class. Direct quotes should not be used just to extend the length of the paper; direct quotes should be used because they are the best way to support, reinforce, the point you are making in your paragraph or essay. Make sure to cite your information as shown in the instructions below. A few short direct quotes may be helpful, but in most cases, answer in your own words; however, still cite specific information even if it is not in the form of a direct quote. Outside (Additional) SourcesBase your essay only on the assigned readings. However tempting it may be, do not use sources that are not assigned. The assigned sources have more than enough information to complete each written assignment. CitationsIt is very important to cite information in your essays as shown in these instructions. Cite all the specific information used in essays. Cite all specific information. Of course, cite direct quotes. Also cite specific information even if the information is not in a direct quote. Again, make sure to cite specific information, even if not in direct quotes, used in an essay. Cite your information in the body of the essay at the end of sentences. Avoid endnotes or footnotes. Cite your information in the following ways.

Special educators must be proficient at more than simply teaching, planning, and addressing student concerns. A large portion of the special educators career will be spent creating, implementing, and reviewing IEPs in meetings with families and other professionals. Most educators find that the present level of academic and functional performance (PLAAFP) is the most essential part of the IEP because it paints a picture of the student and guides the goals, services, accommodations, and modifications within the rest of the IEP. Once a solid PLAAFP is written, then appropriate, measurable and observable goals for the student must be written. Part 1: Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP) For this benchmark assignment, you will use the Ana Case Study to write a 250-500 word PLAAFP. Your PLAAFP should include: Student academic strengthsEvaluationsPerformance in classesPotential influences of language, culture, and family backgroundStrengths, preferences, and interests in nonacademic areasAny other relevant issuesPart 2: Annual Goals Write two measurable academic goals and two measurable behavioral goals for Ana. Each goal should include: A specific, measurable skill/behavior to be achieved.A specific measurement tool or assessment strategy for measuring performance on the goal.Part 3: Rationale Provide a 500-750 word rationale that clearly defends how each annual goal, assessment tool or strategy, and action steps are appropriate for Ana, based on the information and data in the PLAAFP. In addition, using the College of Education Professional Dispositions of Learners, identify a disposition that you, as a special education teacher, would want to especially demonstrate with Ana and her family. Explain how this disposition would assist you in incorporating Anas language, culture, and family background into planning and delivering instruction that meets Anas academic and social-emotional development needs. In addition, what steps would you recommend to Ana, her family, and the IEP team for Ana to accomplish her goals? Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite.
