4) [12 points] Read Corak (2008). What is the relationship between and individual’s education and their parents’ education within Canada? How widespread is this relationship outside of CanadaESSAY: As in previous work on the transmission of educa-tion across generations, Aydemir, Chen and Corak(2008) find that better-educated parents have better-educated children. When they compare the patterns ofeducational attainment among the immigrant and non-immigrant populations, however, they develop twoinsights. First, highly educated immigrant parents areas capable of passing on their educational attainment to their children as are highly educated Canadian-born parents; further, children of immigrant parentswith above-average levels of education also go on toobtain above-average levels of education. Second, thechildren of immigrant parents with lower levels ofeducation are much more likely to attain many moreyears of schooling than their parents than is the casefor children of Canadian-born parents, particularlyparents with little education.
